What a Kaiju Cup Tourney! It’s difficult to accept the fact it’ll all be over this Friday when a champion will be crowned.
But before we get there, two finalists need to be present. This entire tournament has been filled with many upsets. Now, we’re witnessing two 8 seeds, a 7 seed, and a not-so-surprising 2 seed battle it out to see who will be in the Final.
I joked, on the most recent DKN podcast, that it would be funny if the kaiju I was “rooting” for, Viras, matched up against the kaiju Jason was “rooting” for, Jamila.
Well, no joke, the generator has Viras and Jamila going at it for the Kaiju Cup Tourney champion! Both of these kaiju were not expected to make it far. Yet, here they are; defying odds and proving many of us wrong.
Regardless of who wins this come Friday, the champion will be a Cinderella. Not only will the champion be a champion, there is a No. 1 overall seed at stake for next year’s tourney. Of course, as this tournament has proven, just because you’re a higher seed doesn’t mean you’re going to go the distance. Red Baron was the only 1 seed to really go anywhere, and it didn’t even reach the Final Four.
