Godzilla Final Four 2013: Middle of the Pack

April 8, 20139. Godzilla Vs. Megalon: I believe Godzilla Vs. Megalon could move higher on my list. Seriously. I went nuts over this film last August and September when we Americans got an official, cleaner, more complete release of this film.
This film was also the second Godzilla film I ever watched, so it has some sentimental value as well. But don’t think that’s much of the reason why the film is where it is; I used to have it closer to the bottom in more recent years. This film is downright fun.
I found myself wrapped up in the drama even if it wasn’t the most edge-of-your-seat kind of drama, but I wasn’t bored with it like I had been before. With more of the film intact, too, other story strands made sense when they weren’t wrapped-up previously in the more shoddy cut-up version. It felt more complete this time.
I have to admit, the joy of seeing this film in widescreen; with a crisper, cleaner picture; cleaned-up audio track; and having more of the original film intact helped with my enthusiasm at the time and even now.
Godzilla Vs. Megalon isn’t perfect. But the final battle is kickass and having a vastly superior version of the film available, now, makes my viewing experience SO much better now!
