PXCR Total Axess: Episode 2
April 4, 2013Godzilla Final Four 2013: The Mighty Twelve
April 7, 2013We are now entering a more difficult portion of the Final Four. I found myself adding, removing, shuffling, reshuffling, then reshuffling some more while constructing this section. I was surprised that I placed some of my all-time favorite Godzilla films in some of these spots. Of course, part of that was due to not watching them or, surprisingly, not finding them quite as entertaining as I once did. Now for the list…
24. Godzilla Vs. King Ghidorah: I was slightly surprised that I placed Godzilla Vs. King Ghidorah ahead of Godzilla Vs. Mothra considering I have always considered this movie the “worst” entry in the Heisei era. But after viewing it last summer, I found that I did enjoy it more than I had and was able to have the young G-Fan appreciation for it like I did when I first watched this film back in 1998.
I remember being reminded of how often Godzilla was in the movie and how much fun those scenes were, hence the slight move up in the list. Granted, being the 24th spot is still rough. I still have a difficult time getting past some of the goofiness in this movie whether it’s the dialogue, acting, or parts of the story.
I think this movie suffers a bit, too, after having two movies precede it and this one taking about a 180 degree turn. Of course, this was part of Toho’s plan to bring more people into the theaters to see the Big Guy. This is still a very weak entry, overall, in my opinion. But the future seems a little promising if I enjoyed it a bit more after last year’s watching.
