10. King Kong Vs. Godzilla: King Kong Vs. Godzilla had been gradually sliding down my list over the past ten years. I can’t fully explain as to why, necessarily, but my theory is that I found a lot of the newer films more entertaining as well as some of the other Showa films more entertaining as well.
When I watched the Japanese and American versions last spring, I was perplexed as to why I hadn’t watched this movie more in recent years. Like Gojira, the Japanese version is superior to the American cut, but even that one has some uniqueness to it.
The comedy is slapstick in nature and, to a certain degree, I think it works well. Our characters don’t take much seriously and the battles between the biggest cinema monsters are still just as titanic today as they were when I first watched this film years ago.
