Godzilla Final Four 2013: Middle of the Pack

April 8, 201311. Godzilla Final Wars: Final Wars isn’t a perfect movie, but it is fun. I watched the movie twice in the last year, so that has to say something.
While some of the acting and dialogue is ridiculous, it works because the movie doesn’t take itself seriously. It was also nice to see daikaiju that had been absent throughout much of the series such as Anguirus, Ebirah, Hedorah, and King Seesar to name a few. The introduction of Monster X and Kaiser Ghidorah was a nice touch, although the Kaiser Ghidorah suit looked too bulky and difficult to operate.
Don Frye and the other actors spice things up with some funny, and badass, moments.
However, we don’t get to much of the daikaiju action until halfway through the movie. Even then, the battles are short and, in the case of the final battle, inter-cut with Ozaki and the Xilian leader. Too much time is spent on our characters and not enough on the daikaiju that we want to see from this type of film. Our characters, at least most, have some interesting bits to their personality, they aren’t interesting enough to warrant a longer-than-necessary motorcycle fight scene and a final battle interposed with Godzilla fighting Monster X.
In conclusion, the movie didn’t do a number of things well, but it still is one of the more entertaining entries in the Godzilla franchise.
