DKN Podcast – Episode 81: Rebirth of Mothra 3
May 30, 2015DKN Podcast – Episode 82: The Magic Serpent & Greg Graves Interview
June 13, 2015The second issue still left me with a few questions, which I hoped that the third issue here would answer. And, by the looks of things, the questions have been answered.
We now finally know Arata’s grandfather’s name is Hiroshi, and the story is starting to lead us to what is/what has happened. We start to get the answers of what has happened to the world through Hiroshi in text bubbles and through some of his flashbacks in the issue, as the reason that the human race was in their current situation was that the kaiju wanted revenge.
Unlike the previous 2 issues, the characters in this issue are more active, interactive and more engaging as we’re getting more information and start knowing what’s going on in the story. We also know that Biollante is a major player in this miniseries and that she’s the key to humanity’s survival.
Also, just like Godzilla: Half-Century War, the artwork and the color palette have improved, especially the appearance of the human characters and as well as the kaiju. The artwork has become more detailed and refined that makes this world more believable. That can also be said for the color palette used in this issue, as it seems to be more vibrant in quite a few areas throughout the issue – compared to the previous 2 issues where vibrant colors were hardly used.
It looks like that the staff of the miniseries have gotten a little more comfortable and focused on what they’re doing here and how to finish it up in two more issues. If they can keep this momentum going for the last two issues here, then the miniseries overall will be a good one; but, if it builds up and then delivers a disappointing ending, then the miniseries will probably be a disappointment.
Anyways, overall, Godzilla: Cataclysm #3 is the best issue of the miniseries so far, and hope that the last two issues are even better AND don’t disappoint. The story and character development has improved from the first two issues where we’re starting to find out what’s going on and learning more about the human characters, the artwork has gotten better with more detail to not only the human characters and kaiju, but also the environment around them, color palette is much more vibrant, and much less narration from Arata’s grandfather. Speaking of which, we now know that the grandfather’s name is Hiroshi after two issues in!
Most of the questions I had from the last issue has pretty much been answered here, and pretty much begins where Issue #1 ended – which, like I mentioned in the review of Issue #2, it’s pretty much forgettable and can pretty much be skipped over as there wasn’t anything else that issue offered, but only to prolong the miniseries to 5 total issues. This issue IS pretty much Issue #2 with more to offer and focuses on where to lead the reader.
