PXCR Total Axess: Godzilla’s Revenge
October 30, 2013Planet X Control Room: Episode 48
November 7, 2013I’ve been dying to get around to reviewing this issue for quite sometime, but now that time is FINALLY here!
The second issue to Godzilla: Rulers of Earth really wastes no time and dives right into the fight between Godzilla and Zilla, which I know a lot of people have been wanting to see a renewed battle between the two since Godzilla: Final Wars. This time, though, the battle is much longer and literally (and I mean literally) takes up almost the entire issue! You heard that right, almost an entire issue focuses on a certain battle, with the exception of the last 4 full pages of just focusing on the human characters!
This really has to be one of the first ever Godzilla comic issues that mainly focuses on a daikaiju battle, or possibly the first since one of the issues from the Dark Horse Comic days.
Anyways, the battle is pretty interesting, as Zilla burrows underground, sneaks behind Godzilla or creates sinkholes underneath Godzilla. Then there were times where Godzilla bites Zilla on the neck, sneak-attacks Zilla from behind through a building and grabs him by the neck!
Then the military hits Godzilla’s face with missiles, giving Zilla the opportunity to escape, with Godzilla leaving the city not too long after.
Professor Kenji Ando meets up with Lucy Casprell after her little venture to the battlefield, which he then asks her if she is willing to join his Kaiju Investigation Team. When Lucy accepts his offer like their was no tomorrow, Ando takes her to a room and introduces her to other colleagues that she’ll be working with.
The issue ends with us in a spaceship orbiting Earth where we see aliens cloaked in darkness and potentially worried about something that escaped.
The issue overall is pretty good, especially when it comes to the battle between Godzilla and Zilla. The human drama parts kind of seems like it’s still in the first issue as it introduces us some more human characters. One thing I didn’t care much for was that the only human that was really focused on was Sergeant Steven Woods. It seems like that we were forced into knowing this guy and forced to know his back story, which seemed pretty unnecessary. We don’t know if we’ll see this guy again or one of those human characters that won’t last long – basically we need something that will naturally focus on a specific human character and naturally tell us their back story.
Nevertheless, however, it’s still an enjoyable issue and we get something that dives right into a daikaiju battle, which lasts for almost an entire issue.
