PXCR Total Axess: Episode 1
March 1, 2013Planet X Control Room: Episode 32
March 9, 2013On this exact, very day of March 2nd, one of the greatest films to have ever been made was released on the silver screens 80 years ago in 1933. That great film happened to be one of the first daikaiju films and the foundation of such genre, which also inspired the creation of the King of the Monsters, Godzilla.
King Kong revolutionized the film industry in visual effects, story and plot. Not only it inspired the creation of Godzilla himself, but it inspired and created many other giant monster films in America such as The Giant Behemoth, Beast From 20,000 Phathoms, Them, 20 Million Miles To Earth, and much more. It also inspired many other foreign film industries and made classic movies such as Gorgo, Reptilicus, Yonggary, Gamera, Rodan, Gappa, etc.
Although Kong’s career mostly dealt with the Skull Island saga, facing dinosaurs and roaming the streets of New York, he stepped outside that realm and turned his head to Japan – where he battled it out against Godzilla, the Giant Octopus, Gorosaurus, and MechaniKong – whom were worthy opponents to test Kong’s strength.
We have to give much thanks and appreciation to this great and fantastic film. Without this film, Planet X Control Room wouldn’t exist nor this wonderful fanbase of Daikaiju lovers and these classic daikaiju films wouldn’t have been made – especially, including Godzilla. Godzilla wouldn’t have existed without the creation of King Kong, even with the atomic aftermath included into the picture.
We have much to thank this film. So we here at Planet X Control Room pay tribute to King Kong for reaching such a milestone.
Nik and I will be celebrating this iconic kaiju by giving him his own month, Kong Month. We’ll be reviewing the original, 1933 film, the 1976 film and the 2005 film – as well as discussing many other Kong-related subjects we can think of for our upcoming 3 episodes for this month.
We’ll be kicking off Kong Month next week with a new episode of Planet X Control Room. So stay tuned!
