EXCLUSIVE: World War Kaiju
June 18, 2013Introducing PXCR Version 2
June 23, 2013FINALLY get around to post up this review of the final issue to an amazing comic mini-series, Godzilla: The Half-Century War. I either didn’t have the time to get around to posting this review, keep forgetting about it, or didn’t want to bother with it at times. Anyways, let’s dive into reviewing Issue 5 of Godzilla: The Half-Century War.
The last issue takes place in 2002 when pretty much the entire civilized world has been completely decimated, thanks to the likes of both King Ghidorah and Gigan (can also count in Godzilla too). Both Ota Murakami and Ken were at the AMF base in Antartica where both Mechagodzilla Type-3 (aka Kiryu) and the Dimension Tide were being built and were about to be deployed for use. However, they have to lure King Ghidorah, Gigan and Godzilla to Antartica with the help of the Psionic Transmitter device.
Ota pretty much tells the reader that it was his time and to finally put an end to this war that’s lasted for almost a half-century. So Ota had decided to hijack Mechagodzilla to fight the monsters, also knowing that he’ll never comeback from the bout when the Dimension Tide fires the blackhole.
I must say that after reading this final issue of this comic mini-series, this has to be the best issue I’ve read in the Godzilla franchise thus far. I love the final fight between Ota, Godzilla, King Ghidorah, and Gigan and how this comic ends. It gives you a sad, but also an exciting ending which I think will leave the reader satisfying.
The colors are still spectacular and the art is amazing as usual, but the story and the setting is what made this issue the best in this comic mini-series and pretty much of all Godzilla-related comics. Antartica was a very suitable place to end all things since the world was pretty much demolished by these three daikaiju.
If you haven’t read this issue nor haven’t read this entire comic mini-series, I’d suggest that you should definitely read this. It’s a great story on a man’s journey in finding answers to Godzilla throughout nearly 50 years of tracking down this beast.
