Kaiju Cup Tourney: First Round Results

Here we are with a handful of upsets!

Godzilla and Destoroyah, for the second consecutive year, don’t get out of the first round. What’s even more surprising is that Jamila and Viras were knocked out in this round!

As a result of Jamila and Viras being sent packing so early, Reptilicus and MUTO move on. Will they repeat the same feat their foes did last year and meet up in the final round?

Another upset was Yongary ’67 taking out Red Baron. Pestar, in last year’s tournament, took out Destoroyah in that very same spot on the bracket. I wonder if the seven seeds are destined to reign that part of the bracket…?

The only member of last year’s Final Four (Torozon was not in this year’s tournament) to win their opening match was Gamera. In fact, Gamera, Megalon, and Daimajin are the only returning kaiju to win their opening matches. Technically Ultraman X did, as well, but we’re considering that Ultraman to be a different incarnation.

Last year’s opening round saw plenty of upsets. This year, we got some upsets, but not as many as last year. Will a higher seed win it all this year? Only Kaizer Ghidorah and Gamera remain as the number-one seeds.
